Nearly a million Universal Credit claims in past two weeks
The Department for Work and Pensions said 950,000 successful applications for the payment were made in the past fortnight. They would normally expect 100,000 claims in a two week period.
Loans for small firms
The Chancellor has banned banks from asking for personal guarantees on loans under £250,000 for small firms trying to access the specific loan scheme for help during the current pandemic. Those requiring larger amounts will have to stake only 20% of personal assets and their homes will be protected from repossession. The loophole being used by banks to deny business owners access to the loan scheme if they were eligible for a commercial loan which had a higher rate of interest has been closed.
Roll out of smart meters halted due to coronavirus pandemic
Energy companies have suspended the installing or repairing of smart meters, except for emergencies.

Lloyds helpine for over-70s
Lloyds banking group has set up a phone line for customers who are over 70 to provide support and help protect them from fraud. NHS workers and the vulnerable can also access a priority service. The bank will write to over 70s to notify them of the dedicated number.
