QuickQuid, UK’s largest payday lending firm, in adminstration
QuickQuid has gone into administration following compensation claims from customers who say they were mis-sold loans they could not afford. The administrator confirmed that here would be no new lending by the firm and that customers should continue to make payments as usual. Borrowers who believe they were mis-sold a loan by QuickQuid will need to apply for compensation via an online portal to be run by the company’s administrators, Grant Thornton.
Energy supplier Toto ceases trading
Energy supplier Toto has ceased trading. Another energy supplier will be appointed to take over the accounts of current customers.
Barclays U-turn on cash access in post offices
Barclays has reversed its recent decision not to allow customers to withdraw cash from a post office counter from January. Customers will now be able to use their debit cards to deposit money and withdraw cash. Barclays will continue with its plan to launch a cashback scheme at small businesses in remote towns and areas where there is no branch or ATM alternative within 1km (0.6 miles). It has also promised to keep branches open in towns where there are no other options for two years.
DWP backlog of maternity pay claims
A staffing crisis at the DWP has resulted in a huge backlog of Maternity Allowance claims, meaning applications are being delayed by about 14 weeks. Women who do not quality for workplace or statutory maternity pay can submit a claim for Maternity Allowance which is paid for up to 39 weeks from 11 weeks before the baby is due, or later if they choose to work for longer.
Poppies websites swindle
Beware of websites that have been set up selling poppy brooches, lapel badges and scarves but are giving little cash, if any, to forces charities. The Royal British Legion is taking action against two sites claiming it has not received any money and that use of the poppy symbol breaches copyright.
Crooks are tampering with external letterboxes to intercept and steal post and with it family’s identities. Expected to increase as block online fraud. Make sure external postbox is tamper proof with a lock, with a restrictor to stop criminals sticking hands in to take post, check it daily.
