Tenants Fees Act
The second part of the Tenant Fees Act 2019 came into force on 1 June 2020. The first part of the Act introduced last year only applied to new tenancies, but now landlords won’t be able to charge their current tenants any fees, other than certain defined charges, even if they were mentioned and agreed upon in the original tenancy agreement. Landlords who do not adhere to the new legislation could face a fine of up to £30,000.
